You will on this special tour learn about the chocolate side of our capital. We will let this seductive discovery tour come to an end in the legendary Matte District, with a chocolate and schnapps tasting.
The sweet city tour through the old town that includes a schnapps tasting, starts at the Käfigturm (Cage Tower) in the Bärenplatz (Bear Square). CHOCOBERN then guides the guests on foot to the places where the chocolate pioneers, Tobler, Bloch, Suchard and Wander started. The guests at each house, hear a sweet story and can taste an appropriate piece of chocolate.

The next stage of the tour is down by the Aare in the Matte District, where the Master Rodolphe Lindt invented the tenderly melting chocolate that conquered the world (some years after 1879). The Matte distillery is located in the immediate vicinity at Mühleplatz 5. The tour ends here with a harmonious tasting of the award winning spirits of the house and the best Swiss chocolates.

Participation is by registration only, and availability can be checked in the calendar. Any allergies or special needs can be noted during the online booking process at the checkout. Group inquiries are welcome via the contact form.

  • The meeting point for the Chocolate and Schnapstour is at the Kaefigturm, Marktgasse 67, 3011 Bern. Prison Tower is the English word for Kaefigturm.

    Thanks to the protective arcades in Bern’s Old Town, the tour can take place regardless of the weather. However, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended.
