CHOCOBERN

I'm Felix and I lived in Bern's old town for a long time. As an outdoor enthusiast and lover of delicious food, I tried to refine all these ingredients in the Magdas project (to like something). In 2019 this resulted in the tours of CHOCOBERN, which are based on Bern's fascinating chocolate history.

Thanks to extensive research and based on the court case files from 1927, R. Lindt can be portrayed in a much more positive light than in other biographies.

CHOCOBERN's commitment is intended to give the public access to this unique cultural heritage. On the other hand, the chocolate tours are intended to supplement the cultural offerings in Bern in a positive way.

For the future, I hope that CHOCOBERN can be managed as respectfully as possible so that it can one day also create jobs for people like me with a non-linear CV.

  • Beste Schokoladenmanufaktur in der Schweiz

    Casa Nobile

A little after the millennium the two masters, Willi Schmutz and Martin Schwarz, discovered making chocolate - for those of us fond of chocolate, much more than a lucky inspiration. Their chocolate creations, distinguished by 6 cocoa beans from Georg Bernardini, are namely not only the best in Switzerland, but among the best in the world. Their chocolate production is in Bätterkinden, however they also have a chocolate boutique at Kramgasse 33, 3011 Bern and that is located in the heart of the old town of Bern.

CHOCOBERN's guests, thanks to the “Artisti del Cioccolato” of Casa Nobile , enjoy the best Swiss chocolate that makes me as a host, especially happy.
  • Beste Brennerei in Bern

    Matte Brennerei

The time honored building at Muehleplatz 5, 3011 Bern was built by the Bernese city mills that once bordered on the grounds of the chocolate factory Lindt and later that of Lindt & Sprüngli. It was used in the meantime as a cozy retreat of the Bernese Broncos motorcycle club. It was in 2016 that Lars Urfer started distilling gin and absinthe here. It would even be more correct to say that his production took off, as the schnappses produced conquered Bern and the whole of Switzerland in the shortest of time. The secret behind this is the patient selection of local botanicals and ancient craftsmanship that is being kept alive to perfection by the distilling team. This passion has probably resulted in the different awards for the schnappses from Matte.

CHOCOBERN organizes the chocolate and schnapps tour in cooperation with the Matte Brennerei and Casa Nobile. This tour form always ends with a chocolate and schnapps tasting in the distillery, only a few meters from the historical starting point of the tenderly melting chocolate.
  • Restaurant im Mattequartier

    Fischerstuebli

The restaurant is located at Gerberngasse 41, 3011 Bern, right across from the Matte Distillery, and is thus also next to the former mill building where cocoa began to melt. Since December 2019, Lea Steinmann and Sébastien Arnoux have been running this historic restaurant, where guests are enchanted by a cuisine that combines local and French influences. You can find out more about them and their specialty, beef tartare (Tartare de Boeuf), on the Fischerstuebli website.

Salt-N-Chocolate is our shared offer, launched in December 2020 as part of the CHOCOrona-Help initiative. Since then, our guests have been enjoying a three-course menu. At the birthplace of modern chocolate, this menu is, of course, prepared in the spirit of Switzerland’s most significant chapter in chocolate history.

Magdas-Project-II

When Chocobern was set up, it was assumed that guests would one day be able to visit a museum. However, since the planned chocolate attraction was not realized, the Magdas Project-II has been launched in 2021: On the 2nd stage, a location is to be developed so that the last part of the tours can take place there in the future, as it was planned from the beginning.
